2 - What function do emotions serve?

Emotions are like superpowers that help you know what to do and how to feel when things happen around you.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy, and suddenly it falls on the floor. You might feel sad, or maybe even angry if you think someone pushed it. That’s your emotion telling you something important, something changed, and now you need to react.

How Emotions Help You React

Emotions are like a messager in your brain. When something exciting happens, like getting a new toy, your brain sends out a message that makes you feel happy. That happiness tells you to jump up and down or smile, it’s how you celebrate!

When something scary happens, like being chased by a big dog, your brain sends a message that makes you feel scared, and suddenly you run, that’s how emotions help you act fast.

Emotions Help You Understand Others Too

If your friend is crying, you might feel sympathetic and want to give them a hug. That’s because you can read their emotion like a story, they’re sad, so you do something kind.

Emotions are like the language of your brain, helping you understand yourself and others every day!
