License
Elipedia content is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license.
That means you can copy, remix, and redistribute Elipedia explanations — even commercially — on two conditions:
- Credit Elipedia. A visible link back to the topic page is enough.
- Share derivatives under the same license. Work built on Elipedia content stays open.
User-submitted comments and topic requests are owned by their authors. Generated explanations are owned by Elipedia and licensed as above.
Privacy
What we collect:
- Your IP address, used only for rate-limiting and abuse prevention. Not sold, not shared.
- A session cookie after login so we remember who you are.
- Your votes and comments, attached to your account or (if logged out) to your IP so anonymous activity can be imported when you sign up.
- Anonymized traffic counts via Google Analytics.
What we don't: no ads, no cross-site trackers, no selling data, no profile-building beyond what you post publicly.
Your data: email us at the contact address to request an export or deletion of everything tied to your account.
Cookies
Two cookies, both first-party:
- sid — your login session. 30-day expiry, httpOnly, SameSite=Lax. Deleted on logout.
- _ga (and related) — anonymous traffic counting via Google Analytics. You can opt out via browser settings or an extension.
Disclaimers
Elipedia explanations are AI-assisted. We aim for accuracy and welcome corrections via the vote/comment system, but we cannot guarantee correctness — especially for topics in:
- Medicine — consult a qualified clinician, not a website.
- Law — consult a lawyer in your jurisdiction.
- Finance — consult a licensed advisor before acting.
Treat Elipedia as a starting point for understanding, not a definitive source. When an explanation matters, follow the citations and form your own judgment.
Code of Conduct
Simple rules:
- Don't harass other users.
- Don't spam or vote-game.
- Don't submit illegal content or content that infringes someone else's rights.
- Don't impersonate other people or organizations.
Violators lose accounts. Repeat abuse gets IP bans. We'd rather spend our time explaining things than moderating, so please don't force us.
