What Makes a Burger Rare?
A rare burger means the meat is mostly pink on the inside, like when you bite into it, there's still some juice or softness left. It’s not fully cooked through like a well-done burger.
Why Are They Safe?
When you cook a burger, the outside gets hot first, and the heat moves slowly toward the middle. If the outside is cooked enough to kill the tiny germs (called bacteria) that might be on the meat, then it’s safe even if the inside stays soft or pink.
Think of it like putting your hand in a warm bath, after a while, your whole body warms up, even if the water wasn’t boiling. The same thing happens with burgers, heat moves from outside to inside, and that’s enough to keep you healthy.
What About Germs?
Germs can make you sick, but they're like little bugs, and heat is their enemy. If the burger reaches a warm enough temperature on the outside, it’s like giving those germs a warm bath too!
