Ecosystems Episode 1: What is an ecosystem?

An ecosystem is like a neighborhood where all the living and non-living things work together every day.

Imagine you're playing in your backyard, there are trees, flowers, birds, bees, worms in the soil, and even rain from the sky. All these parts, the living things like plants and animals, and the non-living things like air, water, and sunlight, make up an ecosystem.

A Neighborhood That Never Sleeps

In this neighborhood, everything has a job. Trees take in sunlight to grow, giving off oxygen so you can breathe. Bees visit flowers for food, but they also help the flowers make more seeds. Worms dig through soil and help plants get nutrients.

Even when it rains or snows, that's part of the neighborhood too, like a friendly neighbor bringing extra blankets on a cold night.

Every Ecosystem Is Unique

Some ecosystems are like busy cities, full of life and action. Others are quiet and calm, like a peaceful village in the woods. Each has its own special mix of living and non-living things, just like every neighborhood you know is different but still works well together.
