Long ago, people didn’t use paper money or plastic cards, they used coins! The first coins were made of shiny metal and came from a place called Lydia in what is now Turkey. People would carry these small, round pieces to buy food or clothes. It was easier than carrying heavy bags of grain or clay. Soon, other people started making their own coins too, like the Greeks and Romans.
