Long ago, people didn’t have maps like we do today. They used simple drawings to show places and paths. One of the first maps was made by a man named Anaximander over 2,500 years ago. He drew the Earth as a flat circle surrounded by water, like a plate in the ocean. This map helped people understand where they were and how far away other lands might be.
Examples
- A child draws a simple picture of their neighborhood to show where each house is.
- A sailor uses a stick and stones to mark how far he has traveled from his home port.
- An artist sketches the path of a river on parchment to help others follow it.
