Long ago, people didn’t have GPS or smartphones to find their way. They used maps, like pictures of the land they knew. The first maps were simple drawings made by ancient people to help them remember places and paths. Some maps looked like little islands in the sea, others showed rivers and mountains. These early maps weren’t perfect, but they helped people travel and trade.
