Biomes are like giant neighborhoods for animals and plants. They decide what kind of food is available, how much rain falls, and even how cold or hot it gets. In a tropical rainforest, animals can hide in the thick trees and drink from rivers, but in a desert, they need to dig deep for water and stay cool during the day.
Examples
- A monkey can swing through the trees of a rainforest all day because there's plenty of food and water.
- Cacti store water so they can survive long periods without rain in a desert.
- Penguins live near the poles where it’s cold, and their feathers help them stay warm.
