How Do Flowers Know When to Bloom?

Flowers have a special timer that helps them know when to bloom.

Imagine you have a toy car that only starts moving when it hears a certain song. That’s kind of like how flowers work, they have a sort of "time detector" inside them, and when the time is right, they start blooming!

Flowers use something called light to tell time. During the day, the sun shines on them, and at night, it goes away. This change from light to dark is like a clock.

Some flowers bloom in spring because they’ve been waiting for the days to get longer, just like you might wait for your favorite toy to come out of the box after school ends!

Flowers also use temperature as part of their timer. If it’s cold, they stay closed and sleepy. When it warms up, they open and say, “Time to wake up!”

So flowers are like little scientists, always checking the time with light and temperature, and when everything is just right, poof! They bloom.
