Trees help clean the air by catching dirty stuff. When we breathe, we take in oxygen and blow out carbon dioxide. Trees do something similar but also catch tiny bits of pollution like car fumes. They have leaves that act like little sponges, they trap the bad stuff from the air so we can all breathe easier.
Examples
- A tree near a busy road catches the smoke from cars like a sponge catching water.
- When you walk under a big tree on a hot day, it feels cooler because it’s using transpiration to cool down the air around you.
- A park with lots of trees can make the city feel less smoky and more fresh.
