We see color because tiny packets of light called photons bounce off objects and dance into our eyes.
Imagine sunlight is like a giant bucket filled with every color imaginable, mixed together so it looks white. When that sunlight hits a red apple, the apple acts like a picky eater. It eats up all the colors in the light except for red. The red light bounces off the apple and zooms into your eyes. Your brain says, "Aha! That is a red object!" If you look at a blue shirt, it eats all the other colors and spits out only blue light back to you.
Why do objects keep their color?
The secret lies in what the object is made of. Every material has special ingredients inside it that decide which colors to eat and which to save. This process is called absorption. If an object absorbs all the colors, it looks black because no light bounces back. If it lets all colors bounce off equally, it looks white.
Think of your eyes like a camera with three super-special sensors: one for red, one for green, and one for blue. These are called cone cells. When light hits them, they send electrical signals to your brain, which mixes the signals together like painting on a canvas. For example, when you see yellow, it is not always just "yellow" light; sometimes it is your eyes seeing red and green light working together as best friends.
So, color is not really inside the object. It is a conversation between the light shining down, the object eating some of that light, and your eyes catching what is left!
