How Does Artemis II: Mission Overview Work?

Artemis II is like a space road trip, but it’s going to the Moon and back!

Imagine you're on a family car ride where you drive out of town, visit Grandma's house, and then come home. That’s what Artemis II is doing, except instead of a car, there's a spaceship, and instead of Grandma's house, they’re visiting the Moon.

The spaceship is called the Orion spacecraft, and it has four astronauts inside, like a mini space version of a road trip with your whole family. They’ll go all the way to the Moon and then come back home again.

The Spaceship’s Job

The spaceship needs two main things to do its job:

  1. A rocket to launch it into space.
  2. Fuel so it can travel to the Moon and return.

It's like a car needing gas to go on a long trip, without fuel, you’d just sit there in the driveway!

The Road Trip Begins

When the rocket takes off, it’s like pressing the gas pedal all the way down. Then, after traveling for a few days, the astronauts will land on the Moon, explore around, and then take off again to come back home, just like you’d stop at Grandma's house, say hello, and then drive back.

It’s not magic, it’s science and engineering working together, just like your car works when you go on a road trip! Artemis II is like a space road trip, but it’s going to the Moon and back!
