How Does Blockchain Transactions: On-Chain vs Off-Chain EXPLAINED Work?

Blockchain transactions can be on-chain or off-chain, just like how you and your friend might pass notes in class, sometimes right on your desk, sometimes under the table.

Imagine you and your best friend are trading toys during recess. If you both shout your deal across the playground so everyone hears it, that’s like an on-chain transaction, it's public, clear, and everyone knows what happened. But if you whisper your trade to each other behind the slide, that's like an off-chain transaction, it's private, quick, and only you two know about it.

On-Chain Transactions

When a deal is made on-chain, it gets written in the blockchain book, which everyone can see. This makes things fair and safe, but it also takes more time and energy, like writing your name in the class notebook every time you trade.

Off-Chain Transactions

Off-chain deals are faster because they don’t need to be written in the big book right away. You and your friend just agree secretly, and later you can update the book together if needed, it’s like passing a note under the table so no one else sees what you’re trading.
