Canned food is like a cozy winter coat for your dinner.
How the "Seal" Works
Imagine you have a jar of peanut butter. If the lid is on tight, air and germs stay out. Canning works the same way, but with heat.
- Cooking: We put food in a metal box (the can) and cook it at very high heat. This kills tiny bugs (bacteria) that make food go bad.
- Sealing: While the food is still hot, we seal the can shut.
