Ion dipole intermolecular forces (IMF) are like when a charged friend gets really close to a partially charged buddy, and they stick together because of that.
Imagine you have two friends: one has been given a balloon with a positive charge (like when you rub it on your hair), and the other is holding a water molecule, which is like a tiny magnet, it has parts that are slightly positive and slightly negative. This makes the water molecule a dipole.
When the charged balloon gets close to the water molecule, they feel a pull, just like when you bring two magnets close together. The positive part of the dipole is attracted to the negative charge, and the negative part is attracted to the positive charge.
This kind of attraction happens in real life too! For example, when salt (which has ions) dissolves in water, those ions are pulled by the dipoles in the water molecules, it's like the water molecule is giving a little hug to each ion, helping them separate and mix together.
