The Big Three
Think of signs as three types of helpers:
- Red Stop Signs: These are like a big "HALT" from a teacher. You must stop completely, look left and right, and go only when it is safe.
- Yellow Warnings: These act like a friend tapping your shoulder to say, "Watch out!" They might show a curve ahead or children playing. You should slow down.
- Green Direction Signs: These are like map arrows. They point you toward the park, the school, or the grocery store.
Just as you learn to read words, you learn to read signs.
Drivers practice recognizing shapes too. A triangle usually means "be careful." A circle often means "do this" or "don't do that." A rectangle gives information.
When you see a sign, your brain instantly connects the color and shape to an action. It is like knowing that a red light means "stop" without thinking. With practice, reading signs becomes as easy as tying your shoes.
Examples
- A yellow diamond warns you that something dangerous might be ahead, like a curve.
- A green rectangle shows you the name of the street or city you are entering.
