How Does Math Antics - Factoring Work?

Factoring is like breaking apart a big cookie into smaller pieces so you can share it more easily.

Imagine you have 12 cookies, and you want to split them between friends. Factoring helps you figure out how many friends could get the same number of cookies each, maybe 6 friends getting 2 cookies, or 4 friends getting 3 cookies, or even 3 friends getting 4 cookies!

A factor is like one of the groups when you split something up. If we take 12 ÷ 3 = 4, then both 3 and 4 are factors of 12. It's like saying, "If I have 12 cookies and split them into groups of 3, each group has 4 cookies."

Factoring is just finding all the pairs of numbers that multiply to give you a bigger number, like finding all the ways to share your cookies evenly.

So when math says "Factor 12," it's asking: What are all the different groups I can split these 12 cookies into? And the answer is 1 × 12, 2 × 6, and 3 × 4. You’re just finding the cookie-sharing teams!
