The Egyptians made mummies because they wanted to keep their friends and family alive forever, like a super cool sleepover that never ends.
Mummies are kind of like wrapped-up cookies, but instead of chocolate chips, they have people inside! The Egyptians believed that when someone died, their body was like a special house for the soul. If you left the house in bad shape, the soul might get lost or upset.
So, they used bandages, which are like really long pieces of cloth, to wrap up the body tightly, kind of like wrapping a present with lots of paper. They also put in some nice things like spices and perfumes to make sure everything smelled good for the soul’s forever sleepover.
Sometimes they even painted the face so it looked happy, just like when you draw on your friend's face before playing tag!
By doing all this, the Egyptians thought their loved ones would live forever, ready to come back if they ever needed them again. It was a fun way of saying, “We’ll be together always!”
