Why Global Variables Are a Programming Anti-Pattern

Imagine your room is full of toys, and everyone puts their favorite toy right in the middle of the floor. This shared space is a global variable.

When you are playing, you might leave a block on the floor. Later, your sibling comes in, sees the block, and thinks it is theirs, or worse, they move it to make room for their own game. Now your game is broken because something changed without you asking. This chaos happens when code uses global variables.

The Box Solution

To stop this mess, we use local variables. Think of a local variable like a toy box. Each person gets their own box. You put your blocks in your box. Your sibling puts their cars in their box. Even if you both play at the same time, your toys stay safe in your box. Your sibling cannot accidentally move your block because it is inside your container.

In coding, a function is like that toy box. When you start a function, you open a new box. You put your specific variables inside it. They stay there until the function ends. This keeps things clean and safe.
