The American presidential election is like a big game where people choose their favorite team leader.
Every person who is old enough to vote gets to pick one person, that's called a president, who will be the main leader of the country. But instead of voting directly for the president, they vote for someone else first.
Like Picking a Team Captain
Imagine you're in a classroom, and you want to choose your class captain. Instead of voting for the captain directly, you vote for someone called a delegate, who will help pick the captain later. That's like what happens in each state, people vote for delegates.
The Big Count
After everyone has voted, all the delegates meet up in a big event called the national convention. They count the votes and choose the person with the most support to be the president. It’s like when your class delegate tells the whole school who should be the captain, that person becomes the leader.
Sometimes, if no one gets enough votes right away, they have another round of voting until someone wins!
