How am and pm Work
Think of your day like going on a fun adventure. From the time you wake up until noon, that's am, short for ante meridiem, which is Latin for "before midday." It’s like the first half of your adventure!
From noon onward, it becomes pm, short for post meridiem, meaning "after midday." That's when you might be playing, eating lunch, or getting ready for bed.
Time Intervals
Now imagine your clock has numbers from 1 to 12. If it’s 9 in the morning, that's 9:00 am. But if it’s 9 at night, that's 9:00 pm, like two different times on the same clock!
So when you see a time written as 3:45 pm, it means 3 hours and 45 minutes after noon. That’s like counting your steps from the middle of your adventure onward!
