Weather is what you feel right now, while climate is the average weather over many years, like looking at a single page of a book versus reading the whole library.

What Makes It Hot or Cold?

Think of the Sun as a giant heater in a room. The Earth is like a blanket that traps some of that heat. Here is how it works:

  • Sunlight Angle: When the Sun is high up, like at noon, its rays hit the ground directly and pack lots of heat into a small spot. When the Sun is low, like at sunrise, the same amount of sunlight spreads out over a larger area, making it feel cooler. It is like squeezing a drop of lemon juice onto one finger versus spreading it over your whole hand.
  • Clouds: Clouds act like a thermal blanket. During the day, they block some sunlight, keeping things cooler. At night, they trap heat near the ground, keeping things warmer.
  • Water vs. Land: Land heats up and cools down fast, like a metal spoon in hot soup. Water heats up and cools down slowly, like a big pot of water on a stove. This is why beaches feel different from forests.
  • Wind: Wind moves warm air from one place to another, mixing things up like stirring hot cocoa.
