Your nose is like a detective that works super hard to help you know what things are around you, and it's better at its job than you think!
Your nose has tiny helpers called smell cells, and there are a lot of them. Imagine your nose is like a big team of little sniffers, each one looking for different kinds of clues.
How the Smell Detective Team Works
When you smell something, like cookies baking in the oven, tiny particles from that cookie travel through the air and go into your nose. These tiny particles are like invisible stickers that stick to the smell cells inside your nose.
Each smell cell is like a detective who says, “I know this sticker!” and sends a message to your brain. Your brain then puts all those messages together, and BOOM! You know what you're smelling, it's cookies!
And guess what? You have hundreds of thousands of these tiny detectives, so even if some are tired or not working today, there are still plenty left to do the job.
That’s why your sense of smell is like a superhero team, and it works better than you think!
