How It Works
You fill one bottle with sand up to the top, then turn it upside down so the sand can flow through the neck into the other empty bottle. The sand moves slowly, just like how you take your time to tie your shoes.
If you want it to be extra fun, you can add some colored sand, or even tiny pebbles mixed in with the sand so it looks like a rainbow flowing down.
Making It
- Take two plastic bottles and put them together, one on top of the other.
- Put a little tape around the neck where they connect, so the sand doesn’t fall out too fast.
- Fill the top bottle with sand, then flip it over so the sand can start to flow down into the bottom bottle.
Now you have your own sand clock, just like the timer in a game!
Examples
- A teacher explains how the flow of sand between two bottles can measure time like an ancient clock.
- A child watches as sand slowly moves from one bottle to another, showing how much time has passed.
