The Toy Box
Imagine you are playing with a red toy car. You see the car is red, it feels hard, and it makes a rumble sound. This is your perception. Now, close your eyes. Is the car still there? Yes. But what if you never opened your eyes again? Could the car disappear?
The Window
Think of your senses like windows. You look out the window and see a tree. You feel the bark. This is what you know. But do you know the tree itself, or just the image of the tree? Philosophers ask: Is the 'real' tree different from the picture your brain paints?
The Dream Test
When you dream, everything feels real. You can walk, talk, and feel fear. When you wake up, you know it was just a dream. So, how do we know we are not dreaming right now? This question leads us to wonder if reality is just what we perceive, or if there is a hidden world behind our senses.
Examples
- A rainbow disappears when you move because it is light bending in water droplets, not a solid object.
- A dream feels real until you wake up, proving our minds can create whole worlds.
