Part 1: What is Literacy?

Writing is like drawing with letters, instead of making pictures, you make messages. You choose what to say and how to say it, just like picking out your favorite toys to play with.

When you're literate, you can read a note from your friend or write one back, just like having your own special way of talking that only you and your friends know!
