What are arithmetic operations?

Arithmetic operations are the basic math tools we use every day to solve simple or tricky problems.

Imagine you have 5 toy cars and your friend gives you 3 more, how many do you have now? That’s using an arithmetic operation called addition. It's like putting two groups together to make a bigger group.

What Are the Main Arithmetic Operations?

There are four main kinds:

  1. Addition: You combine things, like adding 2 apples and 3 apples to get 5 apples.
  2. Subtraction: You take away from a group, like taking 2 cookies from a jar of 7 to leave 5.
  3. Multiplication: This is repeated addition, like having 4 boxes with 6 candies each means you have 24 candies in total.
  4. Division: This is splitting things into equal parts, like sharing 12 stickers among 3 friends so each gets 4.

These operations are like the building blocks of math, and we use them all day long when counting, sharing, or even playing games!
