What are chemical bonds?

Chemical bonds are like friends who hold hands so they can stay together and work as a team.

Imagine you have two atoms, which are like tiny building blocks that make up everything around us, your toy, your snack, even the air you breathe. Sometimes these atoms want to be closer to each other, just like how you might want to sit next to your best friend during storytime. To do that, they can form a chemical bond.

How Bonds Work

When two atoms share or exchange something, like a toy, they become connected. This connection is the bond, and it keeps them together so they can make bigger things, like molecules or even whole objects!

Sometimes, one atom gives another a little "toy" to be happy, and that’s how some bonds form. Other times, atoms share their toys equally, and that's another kind of bond.

Think about when you link your hands with friends in a circle, you're all connected and can move together as a group. That’s like chemical bonds helping atoms stay together to make things like water, sugar, or even your favorite crayon!
