What are comedones?

Comedones are little blockages that can form on your skin, kind of like when a sock gets stuck in the laundry machine.

Imagine your skin has tiny pores, think of them as mini tunnels that let things like oil and dirt come out. Now, picture a grain of sand or a piece of hair getting stuck at the top of one of these tunnels. That’s what starts a comedone.

Some comedones are just whiteheads, they look like little white bumps on your face, kind of like a tiny marshmallow sitting there. Others can be blackheads, which look darker because the stuff inside gets exposed to air and changes color, similar to how apples turn brown when you cut them.

Sometimes, too much oil comes out from under your skin, it’s like when you spill a whole bottle of olive oil on your shirt. If that oil mixes with dirt or dead skin cells, it can clog up the pores, and voilà! You’ve got a comedone.

They’re not magical, they’re just little blockages in your skin’s mini-tunnels.
