What are demons?

Demons are like mischievous characters in a big, imaginary game that some people play.

Imagine you have a toy box full of different kinds of toys, some make noise, some light up, and others do tricky things when you push them just right. Now imagine there's a special group of toys inside that box who love to mess with other kids' games. That’s kind of like what demons are, they’re troublemakers in the world of imagination, trying to make things confusing or fun in unexpected ways.

Think about when you're playing hide-and-seek and someone sneaks up behind you just as you're counting. That person is being a bit of a trickster. Now imagine that trickster had superpowers, they could change shape, whisper secrets into your ear, or even pretend to be your favorite sibling for a while. That’s what demons can do, they’re like imaginative troublemakers who use their powers to make life more exciting (or more confusing) in the game of imagination.

Some people say that when you're dreaming, or pretending, or getting really absorbed in a story, that's when demons might come out and play too.
