What are engineered structures?

Engineered structures are buildings and things we make to help people live better lives.

Imagine you have a big box of LEGO bricks. When you build a tower or a car with them, you're creating something that has a purpose, like a house for your toy figures or a vehicle for them to ride in. Engineered structures are like those LEGO creations, but much bigger and more complex.

Like a Playground Made by Grown-Ups

Think of a bridge, like the one you cross to get to your friend’s house. It's not just there, it was built by people who thought about how strong it needs to be, how many cars or people will use it, and what materials they should use. That's engineering!

When Things Are Built for Special Jobs

Some engineered structures are even more special. Like a skyscraper, which is like stacking hundreds of LEGO bricks into one super-tall building, but instead of plastic bricks, they use steel and concrete. Or a dam, which holds back water so we can have electricity or control how much water flows to our farms.

Engineered structures are just like the tools you use every day, only much bigger and made by clever people who plan everything out!
