Imagine you have a favorite toy car. If it has flat wheels, it doesn’t roll fast. But if someone swaps those wheels for smooth round ones, your car zooms across the floor much better. The biggest force is called natural selection. Think of it like a strict game show judge. In any group of animals, some are born with tiny differences. Maybe one bird has slightly longer beaks than the others. If the food they eat hides deep inside flowers, that long-beak bird eats easier. It gets stronger and makes more baby birds. The short-beak birds struggle and have fewer babies. Over many generations, most birds end up with long beaks because the "judge" picked them to continue the story.

Other influences include environmental changes like weather or new neighbors. Imagine if a forest gets drier. Trees that hold water well start to win the race for sunlight. Also, sometimes genes just mix up randomly during birth, creating brand new features out of nowhere. These random mixes can be good, bad, or neutral, but they add variety to life’s recipe book.
