What are experiments?

An experiment is like playing a game to find out what happens when you try something new.

Imagine you have two jars of cookies, one with chocolate chip cookies and one with sugar cookies. You want to know which kind makes your friend happier. So you give them each jar, watch how they react, and compare their smiles. That’s like doing an experiment!

In an experiment, you do something on purpose to see what happens, just like testing out different cookies.

• You have a question: "Which cookie makes my friend happier?"
• You make a guess (called a hypothesis): "Maybe chocolate chip cookies are better."
• You test it by giving the cookies out and watching the results.
• Then you look at the results to see if your guess was right.

You do experiments every day! When you try a new flavor of ice cream, or when you see which toy goes faster down the slide. It’s just like solving a fun little mystery, and sometimes, you get to eat cookies at the end!
