What Makes a Factor?
A factor is like a group of people who work together to make the total number. Just like how different groups of friends can share your cookies in many ways:
- If you give 2 cookies to each friend, you need 6 friends, because 2 × 6 = 12.
- If you give all 12 cookies to one person, that's also a way, because 12 × 1 = 12.
So factors are the different ways numbers can be multiplied together. They’re like the building blocks of multiplication. And just like how you can break apart your cookie box into smaller groups, you can find all the factors of any number by seeing which pairs multiply back to it.
