Hairs are tiny threads that grow out of your skin and help you feel things.
Imagine your skin is like a soft blanket, and hairs are like little strings attached to it. When you touch something, those strings vibrate, and you can tell what it feels like, whether it’s warm, rough, or bumpy.
How Hairs Work
Each hair starts deep inside your skin in a little house called a follicle. This house makes the hair grow longer, just like how a tree grows taller. The hair is made of a strong material called keratin, which is also found in your nails and your toes, they’re all made of the same stuff!
Why We Have Hairs
Hairs help you feel things better. Think about when you put on a sweater, you can feel it touching your skin because of the hairs on your arms. Some hairs are even special, like the ones on your head, which keep your brain warm and make you look cool!
Examples
