Irrational choices are when you pick something that doesn’t make sense at first glance, like choosing a toy you already have just because it’s brighter than the new one.
Imagine you’re in a candy store with two jars. One jar has 10 red candies, and the other has 1 blue candy. You know the red candies are more, but you pick the blue one just because it's blue. That’s an irrational choice, you picked the less amount just for the color!
Why does this happen?
Sometimes your brain gets distracted by things that aren’t important. Like when you’re picking a snack, and even though the big bag has more cookies, you choose the small one because it has fun shapes on it.
It’s like choosing your favorite shirt, not always the most comfortable one, but the one with the weirdest pattern, just because it makes you laugh. Your brain is playing a game with you, and sometimes it picks the coolest option instead of the best one!
Examples
- Choosing a more expensive candy bar over a cheaper one just because it looks fancier.
- Buying a new phone even though the old one still works perfectly.
- Sticking with a failing relationship just because of habit.
