What are letters?

Letters are the building blocks we use to make words and stories.

Imagine you have a box of letters, like little tiles or pieces that you can move around. Each one is a single sound, like "b" for "bee," or "a" for "apple." When you put them together, they become real words you can read and say out loud.

Think about playing with blocks in the playground. You stack them up to make towers or houses. Letters work the same way, you stack them together to build words. If you take "b" and put it next to "e," you get "be." Add an "a" at the end, and now it's "bea," like the start of "beach."

You see letters on signs, books, even your toys! They're not just for reading, they help you write notes, send messages, or tell a friend about your day. Just like blocks can be red, blue, or green, letters can be big, small, or even cursive.

Every time you read a word, you're using letters to help you understand what it means, just like every tower you build is made from blocks!
