Somatic nerves are like the messengers that help your body move and feel things.
Imagine you're playing with a toy car. When you press down on the button to make it go, your hand sends a message through your arm, all the way to your brain. That’s what somatic nerves do: they carry messages from your brain to your muscles, telling them to move, and also bring messages back from your skin or eyes, letting you know when something is touching you or when you see something bright.
How They Work
Think of somatic nerves like a phone line between two people. One person (your brain) calls the other (your muscles), saying, “Move!” And then your muscles say back, “I’m moving!”, that’s how you know when you're touching something or seeing something.
Sometimes, these messengers get tired, just like you do after running around a lot. But usually, they work super well, letting you run, jump, laugh, and even play with your favorite toy!
