A long time ago, in a place called Greece, there were different towns, and they would have big competitions to show who was the strongest or fastest. These were like big parties where people from all over came together. People ran, jumped, wrestled, just like in sports today!

The Start of Something Big

The first Olympics happened around 776 B. C., which is way before your parents were born, even before your grandparents! People would come from far away to watch and take part. It was a way for towns to show they were the best, just like how kids in school might compete in a race or a spelling bee.

A Special Tradition

People kept having these Olympics every four years, which is why we still have them today, even though now it’s not just between towns but all over the world!
