A volcano is like a giant Earth spout that shoots out hot stuff from deep inside our planet.
Imagine you have a big jar filled with boiling water and rocks. If you shake it hard and then open the lid, steam and hot water would spray out, that’s what happens in a volcano! The Earth's crust is like the jar's lid, and when pressure builds up underneath, it bursts open.
How Volcanoes Work
Inside the Earth, there are molten rocks, which we call magma. This magma is super hot, like the inside of a pizza oven! When it finds a path to the surface, it pushes through cracks in the ground and comes out as lava.
Sometimes, volcanoes also shoot out ash, smoke, and even rocks. It's like when you blow up a balloon full of sand, everything gets thrown around!
Volcanoes Can Be Friendly or Fierce
Some volcanoes are calm, just puffing out steam slowly, while others can be wild and loud, sending lava flowing down the sides like a hot river. They're not magic, they’re just Earth being active, like a kid who’s full of energy and can't sit still!
