A volcano eruption happens when hot rock, or magma, from deep inside the Earth pushes its way up to the surface. It’s like a pressure cooker, if it gets too full and hot, it explodes! This explosion sends lava, rocks, and gas flying out of the ground, creating a fiery mountain or even a new island.
Examples
- A volcano erupts like a soda bottle, when the pressure is too much, it explodes.
- Lava flows from a volcano like hot syrup spilling out of a container.
- A small eruption can cover a town in ash, making everything look gray.
