A balloon pops when the air inside it suddenly escapes. Think of a balloon like a tiny, stretchy skin holding in air. When you overfill it or prick it, the pressure becomes too much, and the air rushes out all at once, pop! That quick release causes vibrations in the air around us, which our ears hear as a loud noise.
