Thunder is the loud sound you hear after lightning. When lightning hits, it makes a big explosion in the sky, and that explosion sends out waves of sound. These sound waves travel through the air until they reach your ears, that’s why you hear thunder! If the lightning is close, the thunder can feel like it's right on top of you!
