What counts as a mountain?

A mountain is just a really tall hill that you can climb or walk up like it's a big staircase.

Imagine you're playing with your blocks, if you stack 10 blocks high, that’s a small tower. A mountain is like stacking thousands of blocks and then giving them a nice, smooth shape so they look like the ones on a toy train set.

What Makes It a Mountain?

  • Height: A mountain has to be tall enough that you can see it from far away, like how your favorite toy dinosaur stands out in the toy box.
  • Shape: Mountains usually have a pointy top, kind of like an ice cream cone that’s been stacked really high and then smoothed out with a spoon.
  • Sides: They also have steep sides, so climbing them feels more like going up a slide than walking on flat ground.

Some hills are just little bumps in the grass, but mountains are big enough to make your legs tired when you walk up them!
