How Ratios Work
Imagine you have a jar of red marbles and a jar of blue marbles. If you have 15 red marbles and 21 blue marbles, the ratio is 15 to 21. This doesn't tell you the total number of marbles, but it tells you the relationship between the two groups. Think of it like a recipe: if a cookie recipe calls for 15 grams of sugar and 21 grams of flour, that specific mix is the "15 to 21" ratio.
Making It Simpler
Sometimes big numbers are hard to picture, so we can shrink them down to their simplest form. Both 15 and 21 are divisible by 3. If you divide both by 3, you get 5 and 7. So, 15 to 21 is exactly the same as 5 to 7. This is like saying a group of 15 kids and 21 adults is the same balance as a smaller group of 5 kids and 7 adults. The proportion stays the same, even if the group size changes.
Just like a small cup of chocolate milk has the same sweet-to-milk balance as a giant glass, the ratio stays constant no matter the size.
