What is amblyopia?

Amblyopia is when one eye doesn’t see as clearly as the other, even if there’s no serious problem with the eye itself.

Imagine you have two friends who both want to show off their new toys. One friend has a toy that works perfectly, it shows everything clearly. The other friend's toy is like that too, but someone covered part of it with a blanket so it can’t see as well. That’s what happens in amblyopia, one eye is kind of "covered" by something not quite visible, like a lazy patch.

Lazy eye is another name for amblyopia, and it often happens when the brain starts to favor the stronger eye. It's like your brain says, “Okay, I’ll just listen to this eye more,” and the weaker one gets less attention over time.

How You Can Fix It

Sometimes, doctors use a patch on the stronger eye so the weaker one has to work harder, kind of like giving the weaker toy a chance to shine. Other times, they might use special glasses or exercises that help both eyes work together better, just like training your friends to play fair and share the spotlight!
