What is American Revolution?

The American Revolution was when some people in America decided to stop being ruled by a faraway king and start being their own boss.

Imagine you're playing a game with your friends, but one of them keeps telling you what to do, even though they’re not at the table. That’s kind of how it felt for many people in America, they were being told what to do by King George III, who lived across the ocean in England.

Like a School Play

Think of America as a big school play. The kids (the American colonists) had been working hard, writing lines, and practicing for years. But then the teacher (King George III) came in and said, “You have to pay extra money for your costumes,” and “You can’t choose your own roles.” That wasn’t fair, so some of the kids decided to stand up and say, “We’re doing this our way!”

They fought a bit, like when you argue with your friend over who gets to be the main character. In the end, they won, and America became its own country, just like how you get to choose your role in a play if you stand up for it!
