What is animating?

Animating is when we make pictures or characters move like they’re real, just like how a toy car rolls on the floor.

Imagine you have a drawing of a cat sitting still on a piece of paper. Now, if you draw that same cat again, but this time it’s jumping, and you put both pictures side by side and flip through them really fast, it looks like the cat is moving! That's animating, making things look like they're alive or in motion by showing little changes one after another.

Think of an animated movie like a very thick book. Each page has just a tiny change from the last one. When you flip through the pages really fast, it looks like something is moving, just like when you watch a cartoon on TV!

You can even animate things in real life! If you move your hand slowly from one place to another while looking at it closely, it almost feels like it's floating or dancing by itself. That’s the same idea animators use to make characters come alive on the screen.

Animating is just making still pictures move, and that’s how we bring stories to life!
