What is arc?

Arc is a curved line, like a rainbow or a smile. Imagine a slice of pizza. The crust is the arc. It connects two points on a circle’s edge.

Think about a swing set. When you push back and go forward, your path traces an arc. Or look at a bridge. Some bridges are shaped like an arc to hold up heavy cars. This shape spreads weight out evenly.

Arcs are strong. If you bend a thin stick, it snaps. But if you bend it into a curve, it holds more weight. That is why arch bridges don’t break.

Kids love slides. The slide’s surface is an arc. It lets you glide down smoothly without bumping.

An arc is just a piece of a circle’s edge. You see arcs in doors, windows, and even in the shape of your arm when you throw a ball. Next time you see a rainbow, notice its curve. That is an arc in the sky.
