What is Arctic Ocean?

The Arctic Ocean is like a big, cold lake at the top of our planet.

Imagine you have a bathtub full of water, and it's so cold that even your toes go numb when you stick them in, that’s kind of what the Arctic Ocean feels like, but way bigger. It’s surrounded by ice, which is like a thick blanket covering parts of it most of the year. This ice isn’t just pretty, it helps keep the whole Earth cool.

The Arctic Ocean is special because it's at the very top of the world, near the North Pole. It’s surrounded by landmasses like Greenland, Canada, and Russia, kind of like how your bathtub is surrounded by tiles. When winter comes, the ice gets thicker, and when summer rolls in, some of it melts away, just like ice cubes in a drink.

This big cold lake isn’t empty. It has animals who live there all year round, like polar bears, seals, and even whales! They’re used to the chilly water and the thick ice that sometimes covers it, just like how you get used to taking a shower every morning.
